Service 450 – Departing Nottingham 07:00, Fri 4 Sep 2009, Arriving London 10:50, Fri 4 Sep 2009
Here are my notes from Tate Modern
- Robert Therrien – Red Room
Mixed media installation constructed within a space of the same dimensions as the artist’s studio. comprises of found or given RED objects. - Robert Therrien – No title (Table and Four chairs), 2003
Three and a half times their normal size. painted aluminium with steel, wood and plastic.
- Joseph Beuys – The Pack, 1969
VW Bus with 24 wooden sleds each with felt, belts, flashlight, fat. Represents the artist’s plane crash in the Crimea.
- Cornelia Parker – Thirty Pieces of Silver
More than a thousand pieces of silver items flattened by a steamroller and remnants used, suspended in thirty disc-like formations a few inches above gallery floor.
- Richard Serra – Trip Hammer, 1988
Two sheets of steel delicately balanced with only each other and the slight contact with the wall for support.
- Michelangelo Pistoletto – Venus of the Rags, 1967, 1974
Based on a kitsch statue found in a garden centre rather than a genuine antiquity.
- Peter Fischli and David Weiss – Untitled (Tate)
At first glance, appears work in progress – is in fact sculptures hand carved to look like the original objects. - Robert Frank – Memory for the Children, 2001-02
Made from 10 polaroids with hand applied text

I very nearly lost my tube ticket in the Tate. some kids found it though.
Well, went for a stroll along the embankment, up to the cathedral, took a terrible photo for a young asian girl (she of course saw me with a camera and assumed I knew what I was doing!) Made my way to the fourth plinth and I have to say it was quite underwhelming. i took a photo of what i thought was the best bit however.

Waited by Charing Cross station for a friend, for the fun and games to begin. here’s a couple of London shots as an interlude.

St Paul’s Cathedral on a sunny afternoon. And a London landscape obstructed by cranes.
Shared a platter with my friend, wandered around Covent Garden. grabbed some cocktails in a bar, after waiting 15 minutes for happy hour to start. Went to another bar, had some champagne, listened to some live music.

Missed the 11 0′clock train to ashford, so had to get the last train back. Got to bed around 1.30am.
