Friday! And the day before the ball. A quick trip to TK Maxx proves rather fruitful, with ten minutes to spare before closing. Result.

Followed up with a lovely trip to Beeston pubs.

Well, this really sucks

Returned home to be greeted by one of my Threadless shipments. It’s true what they say, buy once and you’ll be addicted. I’ve yet to photograph myself in a tee to get a few $s off my order. I really should. I should also take myself off the mailing list! Reprint today of ‘well, this really sucks’ tee. It’s scrabble. AND it’s brown. I ordered one. I’m very, very poor.

Something else that I really shouldn’t do is buy any more cameras. Though I want to. I just hope I sleep better tonight.

Cinderella

So it’s getting ever so close to the ball on Saturday, as yet I still have no dress. Last night I went to Next Clearance, alas they have no changing rooms so no luck there (I didn’t want to part with cash without at least trying it on first!) I did go to Outfit at lunch today and tried on 5, none of which ticked all the boxes in my eyes. Seriously, how hard can it be to find a long, ball worthy, black dress?

These two are possibilities [photos to follow].

Ok, so neither are long or black but there really wasn’t any in the whole shop. Suitable for a ball? The main difference as far as I’m concerned was the price. Either £60 or £45.

The day was finished off rather nicely with the first tap lesson of the term. Me thinks I need to work on my timestep however. Will the neighbours approve I wonder?

Oh and I got myself a pro flickr account, go me! And I enetered the Holgapalooza contest.

Chicken & Mushroom Pies

Where did the weekend go? It passed me by in a haze. An early night with the sniffles, a road trip in the Fiat to Ayslebury (and much of the surrounding area) for a friend’s leaving party/birthday bash. And a quiet cola in ‘spoons on Sunday night.

The most bizarre part of it all was opening my freezer to many boxes and a rather lovely note.

Thanks for all the food!

Have your cake and eat it too?

Yesterday was the 09/09/09. At 09:09:09 Google did their classic logo trick. Just for that moment in time. I guess the chances of coming across it were pretty slim, one second too slow or one too fast and you’d miss it. Anyway, i bought 3 more Threadless tees in the 09/09/09 sale, I really shouldn’t have.

Yay, finally got around to doing some laundry – what with having a car now and all.

Haven’t been for weeks, but the lady still commented on my car. She approved. I passed my first mini on my way home. I had to remind myself not to wave.

PS. How much cake is too much?

MISFITS

Another day and funnily enough another e-mail from freecycle. I should be getting a Brownie camera, and I’m just hoping it’s one that I can use 120 film in. Amazing again!

Spent the evening playing a time old classic, you remember MISFITS right? Woop.

Freecycle is Genius

So, I finally reaped the benefits of freecycle. Amazing! Some old cameras which didn’t sell at a church bric a brac, I did however give a small donation as a gesture of good will. Now, does anybody know where I can find 127 film?

Let’s go fly a kite!

06-09-downs

A wonderful little trip to the North Downs, a little kite flying, walk through a farmer’s field and a little roll around in cow ‘mess’.

And what better way to round off the weekend then a stop off at a friends for a roast before completing the journey to Nottingham without breaking down on the M1! Bliss.

The Day

The Day arrived!

After filling out a fountain of paperwork I was allowed to drive away in my brand new Fiat 500 (currently without a name, though suggestions include Norman from H, Frankie from A and Felicity from Mum). The reg ends in FTF. Yes it really is brand new. I only stalled twice getting it back to my parents! Twice! I’m amazed and slightly ashamed. Just got to find that biting point and I’ll be away.

Here are a few other things that amaze me about my new car;

  • Remote central locking
  • Electric windows
  • A power socket
  • Cup holders!
  • Boot space
  • Lane indicator at a touch
  • CD player in the middle of the car
  • 5 gears, 5!
  • No manual choke
  • etc. etc.

Took the new wheels over to the grandparents, then took Scooby for a walk (ie: a go on the swings).

Take a Trip on the National Express

Service 450 – Departing Nottingham 07:00, Fri 4 Sep 2009, Arriving London 10:50, Fri 4 Sep 2009

Here are my notes from Tate Modern

  • Robert Therrien – Red Room
Mixed media installation constructed within a space of the same dimensions as the artist’s studio. comprises of found or given RED objects.

  • Robert Therrien – No title (Table and Four chairs), 2003
Three and a half times their normal size. painted aluminium with steel, wood and plastic.
  • Joseph Beuys – The Pack, 1969
VW Bus with 24 wooden sleds each with felt, belts, flashlight, fat. Represents the artist’s plane crash in the Crimea.
  • Cornelia Parker – Thirty Pieces of Silver
More than a thousand pieces of silver items flattened by a steamroller and remnants used, suspended in thirty disc-like formations a few inches above gallery floor.
  • Richard Serra – Trip Hammer, 1988
Two sheets of steel delicately balanced with only each other and the slight contact with the wall for support.
  • Michelangelo Pistoletto – Venus of the Rags, 1967, 1974
Based on a kitsch statue found in a garden centre rather than a genuine antiquity.
  • Peter Fischli and David Weiss – Untitled (Tate)
At first glance, appears work in progress – is in fact sculptures hand carved to look like the original objects.
  • Robert Frank – Memory for the Children, 2001-02
Made from 10 polaroids with hand applied text

04-09-tate

I very nearly lost my tube ticket in the Tate. some kids found it though.

Well, went for a stroll along the embankment, up to the cathedral, took a terrible photo for a young asian girl (she of course saw me with a camera and assumed I knew what I was doing!) Made my way to the fourth plinth and I have to say it was quite underwhelming. i took a photo of what i thought was the best bit however.

04-09-plinth

Waited by Charing Cross station for a friend, for the fun and games to begin. here’s a couple of London shots as an interlude.

St Paul’s Cathedral on a sunny afternoon. And a London landscape obstructed by cranes.

Shared a platter with my friend, wandered around Covent Garden. grabbed some cocktails in a bar, after waiting 15 minutes for happy hour to start. Went to another bar, had some champagne, listened to some live music.

Missed the 11 0′clock train to ashford, so had to get the last train back. Got to bed around 1.30am.
